General Information on Masters and Doctoral Degrees

  • Minimum and Maximum Registration Periods: Refer to Section Four of the University General Prospectus for rules governing admission, and the minimum and maximum periods of registration.
  • Higher Degrees Guide and General Prospectus: Find detailed information in the Higher Degrees Guide and the General Prospectus available on the university’s website under the Policies and Documents section.

Masters Degrees Details

  • Full-time Students: Minimum one year, maximum four years.
  • Part-time Students: Minimum two years, maximum five years.
  • Master of Medicine: Full-time study only.

Doctoral Degrees Details

  • Full-time Students: Minimum two years, maximum five years.
  • Part-time Students: Minimum three years, maximum seven years.

Application Process for Postgraduate Programmes

Manual Applications

  • Applications must be made on the prescribed form.
  • Completed forms, signed by the prospective student and parent/guardian, should be sent to the Office of the Registrar at WSU on or before 30 September for Health Sciences and 31 October for other faculties.
  • Application forms can be obtained from the Registrar’s office or the website, wsu.ac.za.
  • Late applications will incur a fee.
