General Admission Requirements

As outlined by the Higher Education Act No. 101 of 1997 (amended in May 2008), the minimum admission requirements for higher certificate, diploma, and bachelor’s degree programs necessitate a National Senior Certificate (NSC).

Policy Considerations

The policy, effective from January 2009, applies to all higher education institutions. While the NSC serves as the primary gateway, it does not guarantee admission to any program. WSU reserves the right to set specific admission requirements in line with this policy.

Recognition of National Curriculum Subjects

A comprehensive list of recognized national curriculum subjects can be found on the WSU website: www.wsu.ac.za under Student Admissions.

Minimum Admission Requirements and Admission Point Score (APS)

The school/programme prospectuses detail NSC and matric requirements for each program. Applicants with an NSC qualification must meet the required Admission Point Score (APS) set for each program. The APS is calculated based on NSC results and may consider interview results and other assessments.

Faculty of Science, Engineering & Technology

Unless otherwise stated in a program prospectus, the Faculty of Science, Engineering & Technology adheres to the new NSC requirements.

Conclusion

Prospective students are encouraged to thoroughly review the specific entry requirements for their chosen program at WSU and ensure compliance with the outlined standards. For additional details, refer to the official WSU website and relevant program prospectuses.
